Cambridge One Day Dress Challenge! (because I anit got nuthin to wear to the pub!)

Once a month there is a pub meet for like minds in Cambridge. And just like every other plus size woman there becomes the question of "What the hell am I going to wear?" These days I have the underwear sorted... But what do I put on top of it all? So to further my design skills and keep things fresh I will start the "One day Dress Challenge!" or:

THE CODDC

Why use an acronym? Because TLA's are habit forming - and I digress..

Rules are:

  1. Can be any article of outerwear clothing (jeez folks - want to get me banned by Google?)

  2. Post your inspiration (and give credit where credit is due - because then it is research and not plagiarism!)

  3. Blog your process - sharing is fun and helps to inspire others to create. Competition is a GOOD THING (TM)!

  4. Be done by 19:30 - which leaves just enough time to get dressed and get to the pub on time. (although there can be arguments made for fashionably late)

  5. PICs or it DID NOT HAPPEN! At the pub with friends - can happen next morning if a good time was had by all.

That's it!

Feel free to make pithy comments disguised as helpful suggestions OR JOIN ME in the madness! Post links in the comments to your creations! I promise to post the best ones (and the least rude outfits ;)!

Inspiration

So… I have my favorite bias cut green shirt (Evans) which is now horribly stained. I have been waiting to cut it appart and fix some of the generic fit issues like how the underbust line never actually falls under the bust.

AND!

I found this beautiful Cherlone dress on Ebay but it has a lot going on and is way too formal and would not flatter my figure. And I’d look like a burst cushion, but I love the a symmetrical skirt layers. So I am thinking a reworking of a combination of the two!

Now to select fabrics – because this feels like a live drape due to lack of time…

Fabrics

I have been wanting to try this fabric combination for a while. Its a wine powermesh with a stretch black rose lace. As you can see it's still a little see through, but as this has a many layered look to it I may add a black base powermesh layer as well. That will also "pop" the red.

Next the pattern! ( and coffee!)

Patterns

OK. Sort of think I know how to put it together. Decided not to go for the full three layers as today is hot and sticky. Same with long sleeves.

Next... Assembly!

Completed Garment!

And here is the result! Paired with a super sexy bra from Ann Summers it was more than wearable. Gosh it did make me look thinner and really made my… assets look amazing!

Things I’d do differently:

  1. Next time, don’t think, “Hmmmm… I’ll just make the neckline a bit sexier and lower it a couple of inches.”

  2. Don’t try to “wrap” the side ruffle. It made the drape slightly awkward.

  3. Another layer would be lovely.

  4. Colours are a bit “vampire”, but perfect for valentines day with a bit more girlie detail. You may see this evolve and reappear in February!

And yes, that was the photo MOST in focus ;) xx
