http://www.cheapfabrics.co.uk/ 's "silk velvet" is plastic - aviod like the plauge (only orederd a sample so i did not make a big investment ;)

ALL "silk fabric" is plastic! The ground is the only bit that has "silk" near it (and that is usually no more than 18%) and the rest is usually rayon!!

The only non-silk velvet I will use is one that has viscose in as that at least has seen a natural fibre at SOME point in its life! Or I use a soft cotton velvet!
