instant coffe is bad for the enviornment

first they roast and grind the beans
then make coffee using heat and water in vast tanks that need to be cleaned and sterlisied
then it gets freeze dried to condense it removing the water
then placed in glass containers for sale

why not just drink real coffee?
it gets packed in paper/plastic less packaging - you heat smaller amounts of water and only use what you need.

this was not *just* a rant cause i hate nescafe...

I reuse or recycle glass jars, where the weird plastic film foil stuff they package coffee in is not recyclable at all.

Your first point that they've already used lots of water to make the coffee first is a good one though. And the energy needed for the boiling and freeze drying.

I heat around the same amount of water at home to make instant as I do making a cup in a cafetiere of course. Though real coffee involves a lot more washing up.

nah only the cafetiere and mine is the size of a cup as apposed to the big vessles used in factories to make instant. plus think of all the energy used in recycling glass. go for coffee in the market - it comes in paper bags ;)
