NTL SUCKS!!!!!
Mar. 21st, 2005 01:55 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I recently upgrade my connection from 512 to 2gb (as I was paying the same amount) - but now my connection is intermittent, with every other page download timing out (this is the third time I’ve tried to write this...) and every two out of three time I try to send mail I get no ntl server messages.
So, I call ntl to ask if I can go back to my trusty 512… I get sent to a call centre in India…
Where the guy asks if I use P2P – which I haven’t for the last three months or so. He then sends me to a website to test my connection speed – which times out twice, then reads an AVERAGE of 52kb (I had one 80kb spike, but mostly it was 30kb) then the page crashes.
He then says my connection is fine. Despite the fact that it is intermittent. He tells me that the fault is all on my side as I am obviously running a P2P, have a virused hard drive and my wireless is hacked.
I patiently explained that I am NOT running a P2P, run both virus guards and adware removers regularly, and my wireless is not only encrypted, but I also have both hardware and software firewalls.
He gets aggressive and goes through his obviously written list and I hang up. Then go and send a complaint to NTL.
Does not solve my sh*tty connection…
Anyone have any broadband suppliers they can recommend?

on 2005-03-21 07:11 am (UTC)Oh, and you mean 2M rather than 2G - normal cable modem speeds are 512kbit/sec, with the current limit of consumer broadband in the UK being 2Mbit/sec although it should be noted that if you are within 1 mile of an exchange that its possible to get 8Mbit/sec via ADSL; some operators are offering this service via LLU.
There are plans for ADSL2 which will take the performance higher - up to 12Mbit/sec. There is also ADSL2+ which should take the performance to 20Mbit/sec.

on 2005-03-22 01:13 am (UTC)Gail - use this site to compare broadband providers. Dont forget to include KeConnect in your comparisons... thats the broadband services I sell. And till 30th April I can give you free activation and £25 cashback for switching to us :-)
You will also see that NTL ALWAYS come bottom :-)

on 2005-03-22 05:09 am (UTC)We've heard about this broadband thingie but wouldn't ahve an idea where to start.
Actually, I think the less tech-savvy Tom has a better idea of waht broadband actually is than I do... which is impressive and scary in one neat little package.
